What the work actually is
Most of it is ingest and provenance: finding the file a grid operator publishes, parsing it without a vendor library, working out what its fields mean, and building a page that can be checked against it. The interesting problems are about missing data — what to render when a source publishes nothing, how to show that a capture has gone stale, when two records in different sources are the same building.
The rest is writing. Reading a FERC order or a state commission rule closely enough to explain what it requires, with every number sourced to a paragraph in the document.
What is welcome regardless
Corrections. If a figure on this site does not match the source it cites, that is the most valuable message we can get. So is a public data source we have missed — particularly a county or state layer that publishes data centre or interconnection records openly.
