Live conditions — ERCOT grid conditions

Operator condition
Normal
Current load
85,961 MW
2026-09-12 22:30 UTC
Reserve margin
27,754 MW
capacity minus demand, latest actual interval of the ERCOT supply-demand dashboard
Normal Conditions — There is enough power for current demand. (EEA level 0, PRC 18,704 MW)

as of · source: www.ercot.com

The condition is ERCOT’s own operating state for the Texas grid — normal, a watch when reserves run thin, or an emergency. It is copied from the operator’s notices, not inferred here; where the operator publishes no feed this page can read, it says so rather than guessing.

Load — Texas power grid today

Current load
85,961 MW
Forecast peak today
86,756 MW
max of today's 5-min demand on ERCOT's supply-demand dashboard: actuals to date plus ERCOT's forecast for the remaining intervals
Load vs forecast peak
99%
current ÷ forecast peak

Load is total demand served on the ERCOT system in megawatts. Figures are the values in the export; a dash means the feed did not carry the number, not that it was zero.

Generation by fuel is a single snapshot at its own as-of time, using ERCOT’s own fuel categories. It moves through the day — solar at midday, gas and storage into the evening.

Prices (LMP) — ERCOT real time prices

Average
$25.95
$/MWh, real-time
Lowest node
−$21.90
Highest node
$238.78

as of · source: www.ercot.com

A locational marginal price (LMP) is the cost of serving one more megawatt-hour at a given node: energy, plus congestion, plus losses. The spread between the lowest and highest node is congestion on the ERCOT transmission system. Negative prices mean surplus supply, usually wind or solar, at that location.

Map — Texas electrical grid map

ERCOT price map

As of Source: ercot.com/…/current_np6788.html0 of 1,122 nodes mapped

Real-Time SCED (latest run), settlement point LMP excl. price adders across 1,122 pricing nodes: low -21.90 $/MWh, average 25.95 $/MWh, high 238.78 $/MWh. The export carries no coordinates for these nodes, so the map cannot place them.

The map colours every ERCOT pricing node by its latest real-time LMP. The power plant and balancing authority maps linked below show what generates inside the ERCOT footprint and where its boundary runs.

FAQ — Texas grid status

What is ERCOT?

ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, operates the Texas electric grid that carries about 90% of the state’s electric load. It dispatches generation, runs the wholesale market and publishes the ERCOT power grid data summarised on this page.

Is the Texas grid separate from the rest of the US?

Largely, yes. The Texas grid ERCOT runs is its own interconnection, linked to neighbouring grids and Mexico only through a few DC ties. Because its power does not flow synchronously across state lines, the Texas electrical grid’s wholesale market is overseen by the Public Utility Commission of Texas rather than FERC.

What is the Texas power grid status right now?

The Texas power grid status is the condition badge and load figure at the top of this page, as of the timestamp printed beside them. If that timestamp is old the page marks the reading stale. ERCOT’s own dashboard remains the authoritative Texas grid status.

Where can I see the Texas power grid today?

The Load and Fuel mix sections show current demand, the forecast peak and generation by fuel on the Texas power grid today, taken from ERCOT’s public files. ERCOT grid conditions — normal, watch or emergency — come from ERCOT’s own notices.

Is there a live Texas power grid map?

The Map section links to a nodal price map whose ERCOT layer works as a Texas electricity grid map of settlement point prices, plus a Texas electrical grid map of power plants and balancing authorities. It is a Texas power grid map live only up to the as-of time shown.

How are ERCOT real time prices set?

ERCOT real time prices come from its security-constrained economic dispatch, which runs about every five minutes and produces a price at each settlement point; ERCOT settles real-time energy in 15-minute intervals. The Prices section summarises the average, minimum and maximum of the latest interval.

Is this the official ERCOT dashboard?

No. The official ERCOT dashboard lives on ercot.com. This page is an independent summary of the same public data, with a timestamp and a source link on every figure. Services such as gridstatus ERCOT views draw on the same public feeds — nothing here is exclusive.

Where can I read ERCOT news today?

The Alerts & news section lists the notices ERCOT issued in the latest capture — conservation appeals, watches and emergency notices — each linked to ERCOT’s original. For announcements beyond grid operations, ERCOT’s newsroom on ercot.com is the source.
