Nodal LMP map
A nodal map of wholesale electricity prices: each dot is a pricing node, coloured by its locational marginal price. Switch markets above the map, or turn on interpolated contour bands to read the price surface the way an LMP contour map does.

Reading an LMP contour map
Prices differ node to node because of congestion and losses. Where a transmission constraint binds, nodes on one side clear high and nodes on the other clear low — that is the colour break you see on the map. The contour bands are an inverse-distance interpolation drawn in your browser from the published node prices; between nodes they are an estimate, not an operator number.
Grid operators do not all publish node coordinates. A market whose export has prices but no coordinates shows in the table above and not on the map. For load, fuel mix and alerts per market, use the live grid pages.
Nodal map FAQ
What is a nodal map?
+
A nodal map plots electricity prices at individual pricing nodes — the buses, generators and load zones where a grid operator settles its wholesale market. Each dot on this nodal map is one node, coloured by its locational marginal price (LMP).
What is LMP?
+
Locational marginal price is the cost of serving one more megawatt-hour at a specific node. Grid operators publish it as energy plus congestion plus losses, in $/MWh.
What is an LMP contour map?
+
An LMP contour map smooths node prices into coloured bands. The contour layer here is an inverse-distance interpolation of the published node prices, drawn in your browser — it is not an operator product, and between nodes it is an estimate.
Which markets does the nodal map cover?
+
ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, IESO. A market appears on the map only when its node-level export carries coordinates; nodes without coordinates are counted but not plotted.
How current are the nodal prices?
+
Each market shows its own as-of timestamp. When an export is missing or out of date the market is marked stale rather than filled with zeros.
