The condition is IESO’s own operating state for the Ontario grid — normal, a watch when reserves run thin, or an emergency. It is copied from the operator’s notices, not inferred here; where the operator publishes no feed this page can read, it says so rather than guessing.

Load — IESO demand

Load is total demand served on the IESO system in megawatts. Figures are the values in the export; a dash means the feed did not carry the number, not that it was zero.

Generation by fuel is a single snapshot at its own as-of time, using IESO’s own fuel categories. It moves through the day — solar at midday, gas and storage into the evening.

Prices (LMP) — IESO real-time prices

Average
$61.70
$/MWh, real-time
Lowest node
$46.33
Highest node
$74.61

as of · source: reports-public.ieso.ca

A locational marginal price (LMP) is the cost of serving one more megawatt-hour at a given node: energy, plus congestion, plus losses. The spread between the lowest and highest node is congestion on the IESO transmission system. Negative prices mean surplus supply, usually wind or solar, at that location.

Map — Ontario on the price map

IESO price map

As of Source: reports-public.ieso.ca/…/PUB_RealtimeEnergyLMP.csv0 of 1,050 nodes mapped

Real-time 5-minute energy LMP by pricing location (newest interval in the report) across 1,050 pricing nodes: low 46.33 $/MWh, average 61.70 $/MWh, high 74.61 $/MWh. The export carries no coordinates for these nodes, so the map cannot place them.

The map colours every IESO pricing node by its latest real-time LMP. The power plant and balancing authority maps linked below show what generates inside the IESO footprint and where its boundary runs.

FAQ — IESO

What is the IESO?

The IESO, Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator, balances supply and demand on the Ontario power grid and runs the province’s wholesale electricity market.

Does Ontario have locational prices?

Yes. Since the IESO’s Market Renewal Program went live in May 2025, Ontario’s wholesale market uses locational marginal prices and a day-ahead market in place of the single Hourly Ontario Energy Price.

Why is the IESO on a US grid status page?

Ontario is interconnected with NYISO and MISO and trades power with both, so its conditions affect prices across the border. The IESO is kept out of the US totals on the index page.
